杏(仁森)林 Almond Forest Hospital Part 3 - A rich man's room

If you wanted to pay triple, you could have your own en suite and other amenities.

The world will never change.. Some are born rich, some are born poor. And we'll probably stay this way for the rest of our lives truth be told.

Not so Hollywood: Shaw Brothers Studio (邵氏兄弟)

Shaw Brothers Studio - used to be the biggest TV studio and film set in Asia, 20 years ago.

Best part? Walking into a zombie mannequin in a pitch black film set and letting out the biggest scream that the whole Hong Kong heard.

Didn't have a flash light or a tripod. Just me, my guts and my camera.

step 1: roll through the overgrown jungle

step 2: climb over the fence

step 3: I insist you make this your wallpaper

i wonder whose famous buttocks sat on this couch once upon a time

杏(仁森)林 Almond Forest Hospital Part 2 - A poor man's room

Patients were evacuated immediately hence many patient's memories and possessions still remain scattered in each room. I was walking into a time capsule suspended from a time before I was born (1993 when this place was abandoned permanently.) Again I'll let all the pictures do the talking.

each basic room had a small bed and some drawers

and a couch

杏(仁森)林 - Almond Forest Hospital Part 1

Gutted by state of this place, compared to the 2010 newspaper article pictures... After an hour of taking a bus, another hour of taking a train, then another hour of walking on foot, I only discovered that the stocked pharmacies and intact surgical theatres were all broken promises.

But in saying that, I did have five hours to kill in this place so by the end, I knew it back to front.

The floor plan is in the shape of an 8. The middle bit of each floor served as a floor reception. There are 5 levels and a rooftop. Level 1 is the main reception and pharmacy area. Level 2 comprises of three surgical theaters, an x-ray viewing center and a few consultation rooms. Level 3 and 4 are dozens of in-patient bedrooms for normal plebeians, small individual rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Level 5 has a giant presidential suite for a presumably extremely wealthy patient, around a handful of luxury suites for wealthy patients and a kitchen + dining hall.

I'll stop boring you with words and let you experience it for yourself.

general feel of this place summed up in this picture

almost feels like a school

looking down at the garden from 3rd floor

this garden is probably tidier than my own garden...

surprisingly sturdy staircase (floor reception in background)

the scene which broke my heart (it no longer looks like a surgical theater)

ether: used as an anesthetic - a few decades ago..

blue

Last but not least, the place was strewn with mementos of a Japanese ruled era. The whole hospital is suspended in some sort of 70's Japanese themed atmosphere.

Part 2: Time Capsule is now up!

Car-metery

In the 70's there was a rich man who decided to collect cars. But one day he became crazy, leaving this car cemetery with rusting antique cars.

Holes in One

Somewhere in Auckland lies this abandoned driving range and golf course!

By the time i got to it, a bunch of kids had drawn dicpics and a mute hobo had resided in there

Ex cafeteria

Too bad there weren't any clubs left!

We were swinging out imaginery clubs when a hobo (more shocked than us) emerged

The grass is yellower on the other side.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time!

After a crazy 10 hour drive to Wellington :P we climbed into the old Tip Top bread factory

The iconic New Zealand bread factory shut down this plant about 2006 cuz this plant was too inefficient! Most of the equipment has been removed and walls are covered in colour.

Almost tempted to jump on floor of super soft bread packaging! But then there were dead pigeons inside, so probably not a great idea!

Whoops broke all the rules!

What's left of machinery

Otherwise it's just an empty warehouse filled with creepy laughing pigeons

Ladder to no where
